I teach English in a school in Thailand part time. I almost never teach native English speaking children. Sometimes I am teaching very young children their third language.
Often I find myself in situations like this:
I think to myself, ‘Hmm. Pretty sure that’s not Thai, Spanish, French, Dutch, German or English….’
‘Yep. Still got no idea. ‘ I look around for inspiration. Zilch.
‘Uh oh. This isn’t looking good. The p-ed off expression is heading toward a melt down expression. Think fast!’
‘Phew, that did it. Crisis averted. Still got no idea what she was trying to say.’
Ever have any problems figuring out what kids are trying to tell you?

Brilliant post. I don’t have a clue what anyone in my house says half the time, but ‘yes’ seems to avert disaster, thanks so much for linking up with #myfavouritepost

This is hilarious and probably true. I am so scared for the teenage years and they actually scare me a little the hormones, mood swings and attitude. I dont’ know how I will cope with two teenagers at the same time. EEEK. Hide under a rock for a few years perhaps. Can I do that? lol Thanks for linking up to Share With Me #sharewithme

Lol! Smile, nod and mouth something like ” yes”. 😊 works most of the time…or at least I get that all the time when they have no idea what I’m saying!

🙂 I prefer OK, then I’m not technically agreeing , just in case. Because toddlers are all about technicalities. Obviously.

Tricky/impossible. It’s OK, I buy their love by prancing around like an idiot, singing funny songs badly and STICKERS! 🙂

All too often when talking to other people’s kids I just nod and agree, because I have no idea what they want lol

Right? I wonder if the parents understand or just pretend to keep the peace too?

Right? They should pop it in some ‘Guide to Toddlers’ books.

I think as a parent you automatically understand a lot of what your own child says. Other people’s children though…. not so easy! Love your pictures by the way, they look fab. #mmwbh

Gosh, I hope so. I have no clue with other people’s kids. I am still not very good a figuring out what the crying means.

Hehe we used to have this so much in our house and sometimes still do. My best response was an enthusiastic “Oh really???!!!!” and he would look happy 🙂

Oh this made me laugh so much. Boo speaks toddler babble at the minute and I am clueless we get English words sometimes and the odd Danish word too, I can’t wait til we get a more complete mix of all three – that’s going to be super confusing!

Gosh, toddler and Danish sounds like it will be an interesting mix. Good luck with that! 🙂

The teenage mumbles and mutterings? I was guilty of the same. Perhaps this is my comeuppance.

Luckily my kids are 10 years old and upwards now and I only have to decipher their cool talking street slang. I could never be a teacher I have no patience whatsoever lol x

My patience can also be a little lacking. But I’ve learned a lot of coping mechanisms :-). Ugh, not looking forward to learning new slang either.
